Toshiba recently announced their upcoming Android Tablet called the Toshiba Tablet, formally joining the Tablet bandwagon and just like any other Tablet, you’re not in the bandwagon if you don’t take a swing at the current market leader, Apple’s iPad. To highlight the iPad’s inability to display Flash content, Toshiba created a Flash website (http://www.thetoshibatablet.com) which obviously will not display on an iPad. You could still visit the website using your iPad but instead of the usual website, you’ll be shown this message:
Such a Shame.
Add this to the list of interesting places on the internet you can’t see on your device. Of course, if you had a Toshiba Tablet you would enjoy the entire internet. Yep, Flash sites too.
Talking about the iPad (and the iPhone) not displaying Flash content is old news and claiming it to be a feature that beats the iPad is kinda silly at best. However, the connectivity feature of Toshiba’s Tablet is something that is interesting about the device. Sure, there’s a camera (which will be showing up on iPad 2), sure it runs Android and sure it can play Flash but nothing beats the ports available on this device. 3 ports to be exact. A USB, a mini USB and an HDMI with a SD card slot thrown in. Those are features that the iPad, and even the Motorola XOOM doesn’t have and a feature I think should be included in the second generation of the iPad.
So will this be the iPad killer? I don’t think so.
