It looks like the long-delayed public launch of Rupert Murdoch’s digital newspaper, The Daily for iPad, is now ready for release. According to The Loop, Apple and News Corp. sent out invitations to the press for the launch of the iPad exclusive digital newspaper, to be held in New York on February 2 at 11:00 am EST. Steve Jobs was originally supposed to introduce the app with Rupert Murdoch but since he’s on medical leave, Apple will instead be sending Eddie Cue, Vice President of Internet Service. The subscription to The Daily is rumored to cost $0.99 per week and will be the launching pad of Apple’s new in-app subscription model which means an iOS update should also be in the way.
When the iPad was first announced, the publishing industry heralded it as a savior but after almost a year since it existed, publishers are still looking for a successful business model. With the introduction of The Daily and Apple’s new in-app subscription, will they succeed this time?
